Greenleaf is honored to work with Blacks in Green, a West Woodlawn-based nonprofit organization that is pioneering environmental economic development for the benefit of Black America. Blacks in Green leads the Sustainable Square Mile and the Environmental Justice Thriving Communities Technical Assistance Center (TCTAC) in EPA Region 5 to help disadvantaged communities and organizations build capacity for environmental health and justice. Katie DeMuro assisted with BIG’s Justice Comes of Age launch event for the Environmental Justice Thriving Communities Technical Assistance Center (EJ TCTAC) on February 1st and 2nd.
The BIG Justice TCTAC is a resource center that provides technical assistance services to communities in EPA’s Region 5 territory facing environmental justice issues. It aims to empower communities and help them advance environmental justice by providing tools and resources to address environmental challenges. The center is an important resource for communities to build capacity, identify solutions, obtain relevant training, and foster collaboration to address environmental injustices.
The Justice Comes of Age event brought together 1,000 attendees representing community-based organizations, municipalities, and individuals interested in federal grant opportunities and technical assistance for environmental and energy justice projects. This inspiring event provided an opportunity for attendees to learn from experts on applying for, receiving, and managing grant funding, attend one-on-one consultations, and network.
